Biographical Sketch: Phillip Wizeman, Vice President of Research and Innovation
Phillip Anthony Wizeman, a native New Yorker living in the Baltimore area, is a semi-retired ASL/English interpreter who worked between December 1978 and May 2013 as a freelance interpreter. In between these dates, he also performed numerous other job functions as an editor for Arbitron Ratings in Beltsville, Maryland; taught numerous classes as an itinerant professor at a number of colleges in the Baltimore/Washington area between 1990 and 2006; managed a group of toy stores in the Baltimore area from 1988 until 1991; was an interim pastor at Wilkens Avenue Mennonite Church during that same time period and an associate pastor at Heritage Community Church (formerly known as Heritage Church of God) in Severn, Maryland between 1992 and 2002, amongst his varied life experiences.
His great love of the theater has seen him interpret well over 100 shows (and he still interprets shows from time-to-time) in more than half of the US states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. He has been focusing on his writing since a serious bike accident in May 2013, left him unable to remain as a full-time interpreter.
Educationally, Mr. Wizeman has been awarded two bachelor's degrees: one from the City University of New York in 1983 in special education (with a second major in history) and a second from the University of Maryland/University College in business administration/business law in 1989. He attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC where he did his work in an MS/PhD program focusing on psycholinguistics. Mr. Wizeman fulfilled the academic requirements toward those degrees but left the program in 2003 for personal reasons.
Mr. Wizeman’s greatest life fulfillment is found in non-classroom, non-traditional education settings. He has mentored half-a-dozen young men through their transitional years into adulthood and remains active in the lives of almost every one of his mentees. He believes in helping others develop themselves into the greatest human being that they can be. For him, mentorship is not just an activity; it is a way of life.
Mr. Wizeman remains an active member at Heritage Community Church where he not only continues to interpret weekly services and almost all church-wide events, but he is also a member of the church’s choir and a LIFE (small group) leader. He is an unabashed Christian who believes in the principals espoused in the Bible and loves bragging on his church brothers and sisters. It would be a rare occurrence to find yourself in a conversation with Mr. Wizeman that does not revert back to his faith in Jesus Christ or his church family.
The height of Mr. Wizeman's personal accomplishments is a book entitled: Rainbow Salvation. This is a classic book that will be around for generations to come. Pickup your copy today.
